The Audubon Society’s Coastal Center is one of the truly under-appreciated places in my hometown. It resides right at the mouth of the Housatonic River, and is a nice way to spend a few hours checking out the birds, or even just walking along the beach at Milford Point.
My youngest was feeling “bored”, as many 16-year olds do, so we decided to take our cameras and spend a few hours there. There was a nice breeze off Long Island Sound, and there is just something about the smell of salt water that just relaxes me. There is a roped off area of the beach where piping plovers are allowed to nest, and we even found a family of swans peacefully swimming along the coast
