I have always wanted to try my hand at photographing wrestling, but I never could get my schedule to open up to do so. I finally got the opportunity this past Saturday when I was assigned to shoot the CIAC Class M Wrestling State Championship at Guilford High School.
With 6 wrestlers in the semi-finals, five of whom made it to the finals, Foran High had an excellent chance to win the city’s first state wrestling championship.
Jubilee Witte took third place in the 138 pound division after winning his semi-final consolation match
Gino Esposito won the 113 pound state title
Ryan Luth took 2nd place in the 132 pound class
Michael Ross was the 145 pound class champion
Noah Hubler took 2nd in the 160 pound class.
In a surprise showing, Qasim Kahn took 2nd in the 170 pound class.
The championship would be decided on the last match of the night. Ledyard High held a slim lead in points and Foran’s Luke Edmondson would wrestle Ledyard’s Shawn Hundley for the heavyweight state title, the winner also give his team the team state title.
Edmondson pins Hundley in the first period to win the state title.
Luke Edmondson reacts after the Foran High’s heavyweight’s pin gave the Lions the Class M wrestling title.
