Keith Hernandez – arguably the MVP of the Mets in the 80’s.
On June 15, 1983, Mets GM Frank Cashen changed the fortunes of the Mets for the remainder of the decade when he traded Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey to the Cardinals for Hernandez. He gave the Mets credibility, passion, and was the on field leader that the Mets needed. Withou a doubt the best defensive first baseman in MLB history, and a hitter who always seemed to come through in the clutch.
