Saturday was a really good day. I shot back to back state championship games, and both games went right down to the end. In game one, Valley Regional squared off against Ansonia High for the Class S-Large Trophy. Valley had never won a state title, and Ansonia was going for their 20th.
Ansonia’s Tajik Bagley ran around left end for the first score of the game>
Ansonia QB Jai’Quan McKnight broke through the middle for this 2-point conversion to put Ansonia up, 8-0.
Tyler Bailey makes a diving catch to keep Ansonia’s second scoring drive alive.
Bagley, who rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns, finished the drive with this 4-yard run up the middle.
McKnight weaved his way through the Valley Regional defense on his way to a 93-yard touchdown run that put Ansonia up, 20-7.
Valley Regional QB Christopher Jean-Pierre led the Warriors rally with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Jean-Pierre dives in for Valley’s second touchdown to cut the lead to 20-14.
After an Ansonia fumble, Jean-Pierre dove in for another touchdown, this time on the left side, with only 30 seconds left, to put the Warriors ahead to stay, 21-20.
Tomorrow: Shelton vs. Xavier in Class LL-Small finals.
